Plans for a new all-weather racecourse in Newmarket

The Jockey Club has released plans for a new all-weather racecourse in Newmarket.

The plans are subject to the redevelopment of the racecourse at Kempton Park which could be demolished for housing in the next few years.

Cllr Amy Starkey, managing director of Newmarket Racecourse, said: “The overall project is very exciting for Newmarket and the local area.

“The potential project strengthens the overall offer of Newmarket, because we will be racing on the Rowley Mile in spring and autumn, the July Course in the summer, and the new racecourse predominantly during the winter months. Newmarket trains 40 per cent of UK Flat horses, and is the world’s largest and most successful training venue. A third racecourse further embeds the history and heritage of both the racing and training offered here in Newmarket. The Jockey Club exists for the good of British racing and this plan sees half a billion pounds investment in our sport, which is hugely positive.”

The proposed Newmarket racecourse, if it happens, would stage all of Kempton Park’s flat races.
